The Human Growth Foundation has awarded numerous grants for research in physical and psychosocial areas of growth disorders, diseases, and syndromes, and chondroplasias, since its inception in 1965. The money comes from donations of members and from investment income, of which there is never enough. Donations are needed and welcome!
The John Hickey Fund was established in 2000, in memory of John Hickey, the consummate association leader of HGF, who has played a key role in the continued vitality of the Foundation since its inception in 1965, until 2000, when he died. One of the purposes of the John Hickey Fund is to help fund the clinical training of new pediatric endocrinologists; and thus, to assist in filling a shortage of pediatric endocrinologists in the United States. The John Hickey Fund is on its way towards reaching a level of principal, the proceeds from which will make a genuine contribution to bringing new and additional pediatric endocrinologists into the medical field. Donations are needed and welcome!
John Hickey dedicated more than 30 years of his life to HGF, having become involved in the Foundation in the late 60s because his son had growth hormone deficiency. He served on the board of directors continuously from 1966, until 2000. During that time John Hickey also served as president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer of the Foundation. He applied his brilliant analytical skills, ceaseless energy, acute business acumen, comprehensive knowledge of association law, and expertise in running a national organization in all of his extensive work for HGF; his untiring efforts were a true labor of love. John Hickey was the conscience of the Foundation; and, a very effective problem solver who reached for creative solutions to the difficult problems that have confronted HGF. He was and remains an inspiration to, and has deeply touched, those persons who knew him. We keep the memory of his person, conscience, skills and methods, accomplishments, character, vision, and goals alive through The John Hickey Fund.
